Book a MIAM
A MIAM is the first step in family mediation, and usually the first step before any application to court.
What is a MIAM?
Your first step towards mediation
MIAM stands for Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting. It is a short, confidential meeting with a trained family mediator, and it is where almost everyone begins. You attend on your own, and there is no obligation to go ahead with mediation afterwards.
In most family cases, you are also required to attend a MIAM before you can apply to court, unless one of the recognised exemptions applies. It is a chance to understand all of your options properly, before making any decisions.
Once you have attended, your mediator can sign a MIAM certificate. This is valid for four months, so if mediation is not suitable or does not resolve everything, you can use it to apply to court within that time.

What happens in your MIAM
Your MIAM usually lasts around 45 minutes to an hour, and you attend on your own. During the meeting, we will:
- ✓ Listen to your situation and what you are hoping to sort out
- ✓ Explain clearly how family mediation works and what to expect
- ✓ Talk through your other options, so you can make an informed choice
- ✓ Check that mediation is safe and suitable for everyone involved
- ✓ Answer any questions you have, with no pressure and no obligation
- ✓ Help you decide on the right next step for your family
- ✓ Issue a MIAM certificate if you need one to apply to court
Get up to £500 towards your mediation
Through the government's Family Mediation Voucher Scheme, eligible families can receive a voucher worth up to £500 towards the cost of mediation involving children. We will check whether you qualify when you get in touch, so you do not have to work it out on your own.

I requested a call back and was promptly called at the time of my choosing to explore using mediation to help smooth out my divorce. Everything was explained clearly to me about the process ahead and I was sent a lot of supporting information via email to help me decide on next steps.

I can definitely say Mediation is a great way for dealing with the divorce process. The cost is transparent and far cheaper than using Solicitors. Throughout the process, the mediators were professional, kind and supportive.
